L-Glufosinate-ammonium, also known as refined glufosinate-ammonium, is the active ingredient in glufosinate-ammonium that can significantly enhance its herbicidal efficacy, effectively doubling its performance while reducing the required dosage. Glufosinate-ammonium contains a chiral center, resulting in two optical isomers: L-type and D-type. Only the L-type is biologically active and has herbicidal properties, which is why L-glufosinate-ammonium is referred to as refined glufosinate-ammonium.
Currently, conventional glufosinate-ammonium herbicides are typically a mixture of L-glufosinate-ammonium and D-glufosinate-ammonium in a 1:1 ratio. The herbicidal effect of L-glufosinate-ammonium is theoretically twice as effective as that of ordinary glufosinate-ammonium. However, in practical agricultural use, the herbicidal efficacy of L-glufosinate-ammonium is about 1.8 times that of ordinary glufosinate-ammonium. The market price of L-glufosinate-ammonium is approximately 1.5 to 1.6 times that of regular glufosinate-ammonium.
