Description
Thiazophos works by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme critical for nerve function in insects. This inhibition leads to the accumulation of acetylcholine, causing overstimulation of the insect's nervous system, ultimately resulting in paralysis and death. It is used to control a variety of pests, including aphids, whiteflies, mites, and other insects that affect crops like rice, vegetables, and fruit trees.
Thiazophos has both contact and systemic activity, meaning it can be absorbed by plants to offer longer-lasting protection. However, it can be toxic to humans and animals if not applied correctly. As with other organophosphate insecticides, its use is subject to regulatory restrictions in some countries due to concerns over its potential impact on human health and the environment.
