Description
Lambda-Cyhalothrin is a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide used to control a wide range of pests, including insects like aphids, beetles, caterpillars, mosquitoes, and flies. It works by targeting the nervous system of insects, specifically by interfering with the sodium channels in nerve cells, causing them to remain open. This results in overstimulation, paralysis, and death of the insect.
Lambda-cyhalothrin is commonly applied to agricultural crops, vegetables, fruits, and ornamentals, as well as in public health to control vector pests like mosquitoes. It is known for its fast knockdown action, meaning it rapidly affects pests upon contact, and its residual activity, providing protection against pests for an extended period after application.
Though it is low in toxicity to humans and animals when used as directed, lambda-cyhalothrin is highly toxic to aquatic life and beneficial insects, including bees, so caution is necessary during application, especially near water bodies and flowering plants. It is commonly used in integrated pest management (IPM) systems to minimize environmental impact and reduce the risk of pest resistance.
