Description
Beta-Cypermethrin is the beta isomer of cypermethrin, a synthetic pyrethroid insecticide. It works by disrupting the nervous system of insects, similar to other pyrethroids, by affecting the sodium channels in their nerve cells. This disruption causes excessive nerve firing, resulting in paralysis and eventual death of the insect.
Beta-cypermethrin is commonly used in both agricultural and household pest control applications. It is effective against a broad spectrum of pests, including aphids, beetles, caterpillars, mosquitoes, flies, and many other insects that damage crops and cause problems in homes and gardens. It has strong contact and stomach action, meaning pests are affected either by direct contact with the treated surface or through ingestion.
Although beta-cypermethrin is effective, it is generally considered to be less toxic than its alpha counterpart (alpha-cypermethrin) in terms of insecticidal activity. However, it still poses risks to aquatic life, bees, and other beneficial insects. As with other pyrethroids, care should be taken during application to minimize environmental impact, particularly near water sources and flowering plants.
