Glufosinate-ammonium can have an impact on certain soil microorganisms. The effect on the quantity of soil microbes (bacteria, actinomycetes, fungi) and soil enzyme activities (peroxidase, phosphatase, urease, dehydrogenase) in wheat field soil shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with varying concentrations (0, 2, 4, 6, 8 L/ha). When the application rate is 6 L/ha, the total microbial population reaches its peak. Specifically, the number of bacteria and actinomycetes increases compared to the control, while the fungal population shows no significant change.
At lower concentrations (2, 4, and 6 L/ha), the activities of the measured soil enzymes increase with the application rate of glufosinate-ammonium. However, at the higher concentration (8 L/ha), enzyme activity is inhibited. This suggests that moderate doses of glufosinate-ammonium may enhance soil microbial activity and enzyme function, while higher doses may lead to microbial suppression and reduced enzyme activity.
