Description
Carbaryl is a broad-spectrum carbamate insecticide used to control a wide variety of pests, including caterpillars, beetles, aphids, lice, mosquitoes, and ants. It is effective in controlling pests on a range of crops such as fruits, vegetables, ornamentals, as well as in household pest management and public health applications. Carbaryl is also used in veterinary medicine for controlling parasites like lice and fleas on pets.
Carbaryl works by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme necessary for proper nerve function in insects. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to the accumulation of acetylcholine, causing continuous nerve stimulation, paralysis, and death of the insect. As a contact and stomach insecticide, carbaryl is effective when pests either ingest it or come into direct contact with treated plants or surfaces.
